My coding journey began at a very young age. When I was in sixth grade, I had the opportunity to take an elective class at my middle school that allowed us to code on Scratch, the coding software created by MIT students that makes coding easy for younger students. After the first day of this elective, I knew I was hooked on coding. I had so much fun in the class, that I would be finishing two or three projects before the end of a 50 minute class period.
It actually got to the point where my teacher had to create more assignments for me to do since I was going through the topics so quickly. After I took two or three of these classes throughout the year at my elementary school, I had a good understanding of the basic principles of coding, such as loops and working with if-else statements.
